Former
business improvement district employee pleads guilty to grand larceny
WHITE PLAINS – A former employee of the Yonkers South Broadway
District Management Association, Inc. Wednesday pled guilty to a
charge of grand larceny in the second degree for stealing some $71,000
from the association.
Maria Maquilon of Yonkers wrote and cashed unauthorized checks when
she worked as a secretary/administrative assistant for the business
improvement district from September 1, 2005 to May 8, 2007.
To cover up the thefts, she intentionally altered or falsified business
records including to Quick Books account entries, check requests,
purported payees and check stubs.
Yonkers Police were contacted by the association and initiated the
investigation.
Maquilon remains free on $1,000 bail.
She faces five to 15 years in state prison when sentenced in October
in Westchester County Court.
