Police
work to solve city’s other murder
POUGHKEEPSIE -- The investigation into the Friday murder of a Poughkeepsie
man is still ongoing, according to city police.
Detective Sergeant Matthew Clark said Wednesday that Luis Reyes,
26, is still in custody being interrogated by detectives in the
murder of 22-year-old Poughkeepsie resident Naquan James. Clark
would not comment further on the investigation.
James was shot dead Friday afternoon in a parking lot off Cannon
Street, and police say Reyes, who is also being held on parole violations
following an altercation with police Saturday, is not a suspect,
but may have information pertaining to the murder.
Reyes tried to flee from police mid-day Saturday shortly after a
patrol officer recognized the plates, which were noted by a witness
at the crime scene. Reyes led police on a brief car chase, but was
stopped short when he hit an oncoming vehicle, sending two others
to St. Francis Hospital, where Reyes was also later taken after
he took off on foot but was quickly captured by officers.
