New York man charged with assault, public
lewdness
NEW HAMBURG – Town of Poughkeepsie Police have arrested a
27-year-old Bronx man after he tried to steal a knapsack from a
man at the New Hamburg Train Station and then stripped naked when
police arrived.
The incident occurred at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
As officers approached Ralphie Hayes in the parking lot of the station,
they say he removed his clothes and became aggressive toward them.
He became physically violent and attempted or entered several police
cars and two were damaged during the incident.
When he was subdued, he was taken to St. Francis Hospital for medical
evaluation.
Hayes was charged with three felony counts of assault in the second
degree, two felony counts of criminal mischief and three misdemeanors
of resisting arrest, public lewdness and disorderly conduct.
He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail
or $100,000 bond.
