Thefts of copper piping on the rise

POUGHKEEPSIE -- The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department received five reports of burglaries over the weekend in which copper piping was ripped from the walls of vacant houses.

Four of these incidents occurred in the 200-300 block of Church Street and one occurred on Maple Street.

As the price of precious metals continue to rise, police departments across the country are seeing more thefts of this nature.

Anyone with any information concerning these burglaries, or anyone observing suspicious persons or activity, is asked to call city police at (845) 451-4000 or the Tip Line at (845) 451-7577.
