Police ID murder victim
NEWBURGH – Newburgh City Police Monday identified the victim
of Sunday morning homicide as a recently immigrant to the United
States.
He was identified as Orlando Grant, a 22-year-old resident of the
Newburgh area who apparently moved from Jamaica to the United States
about 2 ½ months ago.
Grant’s body was found in a hallway at 72 Lander Street, a
known location for marijuana sales. Newburgh City Police have served
search warrants at that location in the past, and during one recovered
a handgun.
City code compliance officers inspected the building Monday morning
and may condemn it in the near future for a number of violations,
including a reinforced steel grate across the front windows and
a reinforced front door. Both would have prevented occupants from
escaping in an emergency, but are commonly found in buildings where
drug dealings occur, police said.
Police have no suspects at this time, but the Detective Division
is continuing to investigate. Anyone in the community with information
about the incident is asked to call the police Detective Division
at 845-569-7509 or Detective Lt. Patrick Arnold directly at 569-7508.
All calls will be kept confidential.
