Westchester man convicted of murder, attempted
murder
WHITE PLAINS – A Westchester County Court jury has convicted
a Mount Vernon man in connection with the shooting death of another
man during a physical confrontation in Yonkers in June 2006.
Dwayne Fields, 35, was found guilty of murder in the second degree,
attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree
and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
Fields was charged with killing Jonathan Hernandez during a fight.
He then tried to kill Kirk Langhorn by shooting him in the back
during the same fight.
When Yonkers Police officers arrived on the scene they found Hernandez
lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Witnesses told police Hernandez and Langhorn entered the Schlobaum
houses between two buildings, to collect a debt from a resident.
As the men argued, between 15 and 20 bystanders began to congregate
in the area and a fight broke out. During the melee, Fields pulled
out a handgun and shot the other two men.
When sentenced in August, Fields faces 15 to 25 years to life in
state prison.
