Ewen man gets prison time on sexual offense
KINGSTON – A 33-year-old Port Ewen man was sentenced Wednesday
to four years in state prison for the crime of course of sexual
conduct against a child in the second degree, classified as a violent
felony.
Daniel Ryan previously pled guilty on April 29, 2008. He was arrested
on November 8, 2007, following an investigation conducted by members
of the Ulster County Family Violence Unit. The case was prosecuted
by Assistant District Attorney Lauren Swan who said Ryan was intimately
involved with a 12-year-old girl for a number of years, beginning
in 2002. Ryan was 26 at the time.
“The severity of this defendant’s sentence reflects
the nature of the aggravating factors surrounding this case –
the age of the victim, the length of time this crime was committed,
and that a man could repeatedly violate a child’s trust, but
also takes into account the fact that the defendant’s guilty
plea spared this young woman from being further victimized by having
to testify against her abuser at trial,” said District Attorney
Holley Carnright.
In addition, as part of his sentence Ryan will be required to register
as a sexual offender upon his release from state prison and will
be supervised as a sex offender for at least 20 years.
