Teen pleads guilty to assault in high school
stabbing
NEW CITY – An 18-year-old Garnerville woman Monday pled guilty
to second-degree assault in connection with a stabbing at North
Rockland High School in Stony Point on November 16, 2007.
Marian Cenname was originally charged with attempted murder; however,
she was allowed to plead guilty to the assault charge. The district
attorney’s office considered the “peculiar facts and
circumstances surrounding the offense as well as the defendant’s
age and lack of criminal history,” said DA Thomas Zugibe.
The plea also eliminates the need for a trial and would spare the
victim the ordeal of having to testify, he said.
On the day of the assault, Cenname and her victim verbally argued.
The victim was a day student and Cenname was an evening student.
Seconds later, Cenname pulled a large kitchen knife from pocket
and stabbed the victim in the chest. She was subdued seconds later
by four high school security guards. Two were injured during the
altercation.
