Guilty plea in fatal deli shooting

WHITE PLAINS – A 26-year-old Yonkers man Tuesday pled guilty in Westchester County Court to manslaughter in the first degree.

In the evening of January 5, 2007, Dwayne Foster was confronted by Dwayne Riggins, 26, on a Mount Vernon street in a dispute over money. Riggins was armed with a gun.

The victim tried to escape by running into a nearby bodega, but Riggins chased him and fired two shots, hitting him once in the chest and once in the lower extremity, killing him.

Riggins then fled on foot.

He was later arrested during a routine traffic stop in Florida where he waived extradition and was returned to Westchester County.

When sentenced in August, Riggins faces up to 25 years in state prison.
