Bike riding bandit caught

NEWBURGH – A 39-year-old Newburgh man has been charged with burglary after police caught him walking out of a Gidney Avenue residence with an Xbox, PlayStation and several other games.

On Sunday night at around 9 p.m., a resident of Gidney Avenue returned home and saw the front door had been forced open. A bicycle was propped up near the front of the house. She saw a man inside her home and called police.

Officers, who were in the neighborhood, pulled up just as the man, later identified as John Edward Long, 39, of 66 William Street, Newburgh, was walking out of the home carrying several items.

He place placed under arrest for burglary in the second degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
