Suspect arrested in bank robbery
POUGHKEEPSIE – Police have arrested a man who held up the
TD Banknorth branch at 21 Market Street in the City of Poughkeepsie
shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The man, who police identified as Anthony Scott Elting, 41, of Parker
Avenue in Poughkeepsie, was arrested in the afternoon for robbery
in the first degree.
He was identified by detectives through the bank’s surveillance
system.
Elting entered the bank and gave a teller a note demanding money
and stating that he had a bomb. He displayed a black plastic bag
containing unknown contents while told the teller to give him money.
At that point, police said he placed the plastic bag on the counter
at the teller’s window and fled north on Market Street an
undisclosed amount of cash.
City of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted by Dutchess County Sheriff’s
Office, State Police, the FBI and the Westchester County Bomb Squad,
which determined the plastic bag contained no explosives.
