Woman assaulted in her home

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Police are looking for a suspect in connection with the assault of a woman in her own home early Tuesday morning.

Town of Newburgh Police said the woman reported that she went to the first floor of her home on Grand Avenue near the I-84 overpass shortly after 6 a.m. after hearing her dog bark. She was confronted by a man who demanded cash and valuables and then struck her several times with a pole-like object.

He fled out the front door with a small amount of cash. It is unknown if he had a vehicle.

The victim was treated at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital for lacerations.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 40 years old, 6-feet to 6-feet, 2-iches tall, wearing eyeglasses, a long dark wool overcoat and a knit or nylon cap.
