Teen charged with attacking former girlfriend’s
parents with machete knives
POUGHKEEPSIE – A 17-year-old male has been charged with forcing
himself into his ex-girlfriend’s home and assaulting her mother
and father with two machete-style knives.
The incident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on April 2 at a Town of Rhinebeck
home, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.
The girl’s father suffered from a laceration to the head and
a severed thumb. He was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center
for treatment. The girl’s mother was treated and released
at the scene for a laceration to her hand.
Police arrested Nicholas Usuriello of Clinton Corners, who was still
armed with two knives when deputies arrived on the scene. He was
treated for a laceration to his finger and later released from Northern
Dutchess Hospital.
The former girlfriend was not injured, but police said early investigation
revealed Usuriello went to the home with the intent of confronting
the parents.
Lt. John Watterson said he was charged with several crimes. Usuriello
was charged with burglary and assault, both in the first degree,
second-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Other
charges may follow.
He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $200,000
bail.
