Walden man arrested on sex-related charges

MONTGOMERY – A 36-year-old Walden man has been arrested by Montgomery Town Police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of predatory sexual assault. Darryl Quirk of 158 St. Andrews Road in Walden was also charged with first-degree rape, criminal sexual act in the first degree, aggravated sexual act in the first degree, menacing in the first degree and unlawful imprisonment. All the charges are felonies.

Police Chief Arnold Amthor said the victim, a woman in her 20s, had met Quirk through a friend, and went to his home to hang out. It was then that he attacked her, said the chief. The victim required medical treatment at a local hospital.

Quirk, who was arrested Thursday night, was arraigned and remanded to the Orange County Jail without bail.

When police entered Quirk’s residence, they recovered a quantity of marijuana as well as a small scale marijuana growing operation. Arrested in connection with that was 49-year-old Thomas Susta. He was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fourth degree and released for a future court appearance.
