Woman crashes car, reports it stolen

WALDEN – A 24-year-old Wallkill woman has been charged with falsely reporting her vehicle being stolen.

Walden Village Police said Morghan Smith was arrested on Wednesday, march 26 following an investigation.

Witness interviews and video from the street camera system in the village revealed smith had left Dominick’s Sports Bar at about 2:40 a.m. to drive a friend home, crashed her car into a tree on Sherman Avenue, and then parked it behind Millspaugh Furniture before walking back to the bar and reporting it missing.

She was charged with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree and making a false written statement.

She was released on her own recognizance to return to Walden Village Justice Court at a later date.
