Store clerk charged with pulling switchblade on customers

MONTICELLO – Police have charged a Monticello store clerk with threatening two customers with a switchblade knife.

Monticello Village Police said two customers, a man and woman, went to the Verizon store at 384 Broadway with the intention to add a line to an existing account.

They got into a verbal dispute with the store clerk, Shereem Burch, 27, of Monticello, and left the store with the intention of going to another store in Middletown.

As they were leaving the driveway of the store, Burch continued to argue with the male customer who then stopped the car.

At that point, Burch allegedly pulled the knife and threatened them with the knife.

Burch was arrested by police and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and misdemeanor menacing in the second degree.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail.
