Man arrested for gun possession inside bar
POUGHKEEPSIE – City Police in Poughkeepsie have arrested
a 39-year-old Poughkeepsie man for possessing a loaded Smith &
Wesson .9 mm semi-automatic handgun while inside a local tavern
on Academy Street.
Police were tipped off to the man, late identified as Rudy Steans,
Jr. of 305 Church Street in Poughkeepsie. Officers went to the bar
shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday night and escorted him outside.
Once outside, Steans took off and ran south on Academy Street, across
the Eastbound Arterial, and was observed by police discarding the
gun.
Steans was apprehended a short time later and when brought back
to the police station, officers found him to have several warrants
issued against him.
Steans was charged with three counts of criminal possession of
a weapon in the third degree one count of which was because he was
previously convicted of a crime, as well as resisting arrest, menacing,
and endangering the welfare of a child.
He was charged in the bench warrants with criminal contempt in
the second degree and third-degree assault.
