Undocumented alien charged with knifing
his brother
BREWSTER – The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has charged
a 34-year-old Brewster man with stabbing his brother in the torso
with a steak knife, severing an artery.
The attack by Gabriel Ramirez on his brother, Rony Ramirez, 26,
also of Brewster, occurred as the two were drinking alcoholic beverages
at 1 a.m. on Thursday, March 20. Police said an argument ensued
leading to a fight and stabbing in front of 139 Main Street in Brewster.
Gabriel Ramirez was charged with second-degree assault and remanded
to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
His brother was admitted to Danbury Hospital in fair condition,
police said.
Gabriel Ramirez was identified as an undocumented alien from Guatemala.
As a result, the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement
was notified. Ramirez could face deportation proceedings when he
is released from a correctional facility.
If convicted of second-degree assault, he could face up to seven
years in state prison.
