Anonymous Tips lead to drug arrest

POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the City of Poughkeepsie have arrested a 52-year-old Poughkeepsie man on drug charges after they began an investigation two months ago. It began with anonymous tips from local residents about suspected drug activity.

Police charged Michael Lanchester of 75 North Hamilton Street in Poughkeepsie with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony.

Lanchester tried to hide 65 bags of heroin in his closet when police arrived to execute a search warrant shortly before 9:30 p.m. last Friday.

City Police reminded the community to call the Neighborhood Recovery Unit with any narcotics related information, or any information about Lanchester, at 845-451-4060, or the department tip line at 845-451-7577. All calls will be kept confidential.
