warrant leads to drug arrest
POUGHKEEPSIE – A 49-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man is
being held on drug charges after police searched his car and home.
City of Poughkeepsie Police had been investigating Robert Thomas,
Jr. for two months and tried to pull him over Wednesday night when
he was spotted driving in the area of 95 Smith Street.
He sped off in an attempt to elude the police, but was pulled over
on the westbound arterial and tried to flee on foot when he was
apprehended.
Thomas had 11 bags of heroin and about two grams of crack cocaine
in his possession.
Police then searched his apartment and found more cocaine as well
as packaging material and scales. A total of $700 in cash was also
recovered.
Thomas was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a
controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, reckless driving,
and several vehicle and traffic violations.
