Man
who tried to run down cops is sentenced
NEW CITY – A Bronx man, who drove his car at police officers
in Rockland County and New Jersey, has been sentenced to prison
time.
Alexis Santiago, 37, was sentenced in Rockland County Court to seven
years in prison and five years post release supervisor on the charges
of grand larceny in the second degree, identity theft in the first
degree, forgery in the second degree, criminal possession of a forged
instrument in the second degree, attempted assault in the first
degree and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer.
Santiago purchased a $52,000 vehicle from a local dealership using
assuming another man’s identity.
When the auto dealer tried to register the vehicle for him, the
state DMV discovered the discrepancy. Clarkstown Police officers
attempted to arrest him when he returned to the dealership to pick
up the car, but he drove at one of the officers, who had to jump
out of the way.
A high-speed chase ensured that ended in Fort Lee, New Jersey. When
Jersey police officers attempted to stop him, he again drove the
car at them.
As a result of charges in New Jersey, he is presently in jail.
