Four
charged in scheme to torch car for insurance money
TOWN OF DEERPARK – Deerpark Police have charged four people
in connection with a scheme to report a car stolen, torch it and
collect the insurance money.
The car was discovered burned on February 29 just over the Deerpark
town line in the Town of Forestburgh. It had been reported stolen
by its owner, Loretta Conklin, 27, of Sparrowbush.
It is alleged that she paid two other people to destroy the vehicle.
She was charged with the felony of conspiracy and misdemeanors of
insurance fraud and falsely reporting an incident.
Abner Padin, also of Sparrowbush, was charged with the felony of
conspiracy as well.
On March 1, police arrested Ruth Padin, 20, and Samuel Rivera,
24, both of Monticello, and charged them with felony arson and conspiracy.
Conklin and Abner Padin were released on appearance tickets and
Rivera and Ruth Padin were released on $250 cash bail.
All are due back in town court later this month.
