Man shot five times, suspect in custody
POUGHKEEPSIE – A 28-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man was
shot five times late Thursday night and survived with non-life-threatening
injuries, city police said Friday.
Officers responded to the scene and detained a suspect who was later
identified as the shooter. Davon Wade, 21, a parolee who lives on
South Grand Avenue was charged with first-degree assault, a felony.
He was arraigned and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail.
The victim was visiting friends on Cannon Street when he was approached
by Wade, who he didn’t know, but with whom he had words the
previous night, police said. Wade pulled a small dark-colored revolver
and shot the victim, striking him twice in the back, once in each
upper arm and once in the side.
The victim, who police did not identify, was transported to Saint
Francis hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, including
a bullet lodged in his right lung.
The shooting is still under investigation.
