Man pleads guilty on attempted murder charge
KINGSTON – A Kingston man pled guilty Thursday in Ulster
County Court to attempted murder and other charges in connection
with the shooting of a rival gang member on a Kingston city street.
Marcello Douglas also pled guilty to assault in the first degree
and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
According to Ulster District Attorney Holley Carnright, Douglas
fired five shots at point blank range into an unarmed man who was
sitting in a car parked at the Rondout Market in Kingston. Three
other teenagers were in the car at the time.
The victim, who survived, was in a coma for three days.
Carnright said the most compelling evidence developed was the police
surveillance camera video imaging of Douglas sneaking up to the
victim’s car and as he fled after the showing, as well as
the victim being shot.
