Two indicted in connection with drive by
shooting death
GOSHEN – Two young men have been indicted by an Orange County
grand jury in connection with the May 6 drive by shooting death
of Jeffrey Zachary on a Newburgh city street.
The 15-year-old Zachary stood outside on Dubois Street late at night
when he was killed. Arrested were Daniel Correa, 21, of Newburgh
and Joshua Torres, 16, of Beacon.
Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips said only one of
the suspects has been charged with killing Zachary.
Only Correa was indicted on two counts of second-degree murder;
and Torres was charged along with Correa with criminal possession
of a weapon in the third degree and tampering with physical evidence.
Both were arrested by Newburgh City Police within a day or two
of the homicide and both are being held in the Orange County Jail
without bail.
Police have yet to arrest anyone in connection with a second murder
in Newburgh within days of the first one.
James Murchison, 16, was stabbed while with several other people
on South Street.
He died hours later in the hospital.
