Orange County man charged with possessing
counterfeit cash
YONKERS -- A Washingtonville man is facing felony charges for possessing
counterfeit US currency while traveling on the New York State Thruway.
On Sunday, May 25 at about 1:40 a.m., Troopers Randy Smith and Miguel
Berberena received a report from the Yonkers Toll Barrier that a
motorist paid a toll with a phony bill and continued northbound
on Interstate 87.
A description of the vehicle and its occupants were provided and
a few minutes later, the troopers located and stopped the vehicle
northbound on I-87 in Tarrytown.
The operator, Kwan Thornton, 37, of Tarrytown and the passenger,
Darryl Thornhill, 30, of Washingtonville were found to possess a
small amount of marijuana.
Thornton was charged solely with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana
and released on an appearance ticket. While at the police station,
Thornhill was found to possess an additional quantity of counterfeit
US currency and was charged with possession of a forged instrument
first degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. Thornhill was
also discovered to be the subject of an active warrant for reckless
endangerment in the first degree from the City of Newburgh Police
Department.
