Man arrested after making false statements
MONTICELLO -- Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested
a Monticello man for making false statements on a pistol permit
application and unlawfully registering to vote.
Shefki Bragimaj, 32 of Monticello was arrested Wednesday, May 21,
as a result of a background check that was conducted by the Sheriff’s
Office when he submitted an application for a New York State pistol
permit. On the application Bragimaj indicated that he was a U.S.
citizen, when in fact he is a citizen of the former Yugoslavia.
Deputies also discovered that Bragimaj had filed a voter registration
application with the Sullivan County Board of Elections and had
indicated on that document that he was a U.S. citizen.
Bragimaj was charged with the Felony of Making a False Statement
on a Voter Registration Application and two misdemeanor counts of
offering a False Instrument for Filing.
He was released on an appearance ticket pending a future court date
in the Village of Monticello.
