Two indicted on department store scam
NEW CITY – A couple has been indicted by a Rockland County
grand jury on charges that they ran a scam at the Macy’s store
at the Palisades mall.
District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said that between February 25 and
March 6, Jabary Victor, 19, of Garnerville, accepted fraudulent
returns from girlfriend, Barbara Jennings, 18, of Wallkill, while
he worked at Macy’s.
On several occasions, Jennings selected merchandise from clothing
racks and brought them to the register where Victor processed the
return and gave her a Macy’s gift card in the amount of the
“returned” merchandise.
On one occasion, a loss prevention officer observed Jennings selected
merchandise, bring it over to Victor, where he scanned the same
piece several times and placed the amount in several gift cards.
The officer stopped Jennings and recovered the cards.
Both were indicted on charges of grand larceny in the third degree,
criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree and falsifying
business records in the first degree.
