| Second
teen killed in Newburgh street in two weeks
NEWBURGH – Police in the City of Newburgh have another homicide
on their hands. This is the second murder in the city in two weeks
and like the May 6th murder, this one also involved the death of
a teenage boy. There have been no arrests made as of mid-day Saturday.
Dead is James Andrew Murchison, 16, of 70 Lander Street in Newburgh.
He died in the hospital at 4:30 a.m. Saturday after undergoing hours
or surgery.
Police were called to the scene of a large street fight and a report
of a man down on the sidewalk near 170 South Street shortly after
11 p.m. Friday. Officers saw a large crowd gathered around a youth,
who was lying on the sidewalk and bleeding from a stab wound.
Murchison was rushed to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.
Lt. Charles Broe said there was a very large street fight in progress
at the time of the stabbing, or a number of smaller fights going
on simultaneously. Therefore, police believe there are a number
of potential witnesses.
Police are encouraging anyone with information to call Detective
Roberta Goodman at 845-569-7512 or Lt. Patrick Arnold at 845-569-7508.
All calls will be kept confidential.
On May 6, Jeffrey Zachary, 15, was gunned down by a drive-by shooter
as he was outside late at night. Two suspects have been arrested
in that case. Three years ago, Zachary’s older brother, Trent,
was also shot to dead in a drive-by shooting on a Newburgh street. |
