Domestic incident turns violent
POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office
has charged a 27-year-old Wassaic man with first-degree assault
and first-degree burglary following a stabbing incident in the Town
of North East late Wednesday night.
Deputies said Michael Campbell is alleged to have stabbed another
man several times in the neck and body with a knife. The 10 p.m.
incident is believed to have been the result of an argument over
a woman.
When police arrived, Campbell had fled into nearby woods, but after
a short stand-off, he was taken into custody. He sustained knife
wounds as well.
Both the victim, who police would not publically identify, and Campbell
were transported to Sharon, CT Hospital and were later airlifted
to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
The investigation is continuing and further charges may be filed
later, police said.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the State
Police and Village of Millerton Police.
