Cadet dismissed after reckless driving incident
WEST POINT N.Y – Two-and-a-half weeks before he was to graduate,
a U.S. Military Academy cadet in A Company, 1st Regiment, Class
of 2008, was found guilty Tuesday by a military judge for driving
recklessly while under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident
and providing a false official statement.
Joshua Dixon was sentenced to one year and one month confinement,
dismissal from the U.S. Army and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.
He was formally charged in December 2007 with one violation of the
Uniform Code of Military Justice for Drunken and Reckless Operation
of a Vehicle, and three violations of the UCMJ for Conduct Unbecoming
an Officer and a Gentleman, while on temporary duty in Maryland
on or about July 1, 2007.
“Cadet Dixon was found guilty. Once the evidence was presented,
the judge determined that his conduct violated the Uniform Code
of Military Justice and the standards expected of all Soldiers,”
said Director of Communications Col. Bryan Hilferty.
