Sentencing in hit and run death
WHITE PLAINS – A 32-year-old Port Chester man was sentenced
Tuesday in Westchester County Court to one year in county jail and
permanent revocation of his state driver’s license following
a fatal accident.
Vincente Lopez-Duarte pled guilty plea one leaving the scene of
an accident resulting in death, reckless endangerment and vehicle
and traffic violations.
On February 19, 2007 at about 3:30 p.m., Lopez-Duarte was driving
on North Main Street at the intersection of Westchester Avenue in
Port Chester. As the light turned green, he struck the victim with
his vehicle as she walked in the crosswalk on Westchester Avenue.
The victim landed on the hood and was flipped over the top of the
car.
A witness saw Lopez-Duarte drive up the street about 20 feet, stop
for about 30 seconds and then drive off. He drove his vehicle in
and out traffic in the opposite lane as he went home.
The witness followed him to his home where the Port Chester Police
were alerted and he was arrested.
The victim died two days after the incident. Lopez-Duarte was not
driving with a valid license.
