Construction worker killed on high-rise
project
Yonkers – A 40-year-old construction worker was killed Monday
in an accident at a condominium high-rise that is under construction
at 66 Main Street in the City of Yonkers.
City Police said the man, who they did not immediately identify,
was maneuvering a large concrete slab on the eighth floor of the
structure about 9:30 a.m., when something went wrong, causing the
slab to fall, landing on similar slabs on lower floors, until they
pancaked to the ground.
The worker rode the slab on the eighth floor to the third level,
when he sustained severe head injuries.
He was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead
about an hour later.
When completed, the building is expected to be 15-stories tall.
